My Favorite Block: Tara Lovato

Tara Lovato,  Founder / Owner / Curator / Stylist, La Lovely Vintage

My Favorite Block:  Larimer Street between 20th and 30th in RiNo.

La Lovely Vintage is a great local go-to for beautiful, thoughtfully-curated goods. It all started as a mobile vintage shop in an adorable teal 1957 Shasta trailer named Lucy, and has since added a brick and mortar location in RiNo’s Backyard on Blake (30th and Blake Street). The vintage and modern boutique specializes in men and women’s clothing, accessories, home décor, and handmade goods, with all items curated by the shop’s founder and owner, Tara Lovato. We caught up with Tara this month to talk about her favorite part of the city:

“My favorite block is in RiNo, on Larimer Street between 20th and 30th. RiNo has an endless supply of amazing restaurants, breweries, and art murals in walking distance from each other. It’s a great place to spend a day off with friends or family exploring the city and seeing what Denver has to offer.”

Check out Tara’s favorite go-to spots:

Bar Fausto: The Atmosphere and the Drinks (Old Fashioned)

Meadowlark Kitchen: Best hamburger in Town

Infinite Monkey Theorem: Always great vibes. A modern winery with beautiful indoor and outdoor seating

Crema: Coffee and Veggie Sandwiches

Five Questions, One Broker: Patti Brave

Patti Brave, Broker Associate at Slifer — Denver

What’s the most exciting part about being a broker at SSF Denver? I love the hustle and bustle of Riverfront Park and meeting all the wonderful people that stop in our office. We have a great team of brokers who all look out for each other,  participate in lots of charitable causes, and just have fun. And we’re are all very excited about East West Partners’ spectacular new condominium development, The Coloradan.

What do you like to do on your day off? I’m an avid Zumba dancer, play pickle ball with my husband, and love boating and other activities with my kids and grandkids.

Name one thing on your 2017 bucket list. I have lots of ideas for the future, but for 2017, a winter vacation in various spots in Florida with family and friends.

Tell us about a recent adventure. I moved from Vail this year to be with my family. It’s been a big change, but I’ve been with Slifer Smith and Frampton for 20 years and am so happy to be able to stay with this fantastic company in Denver. I love learning about all the special things in the Denver metro area.

What’s your go-to spot in Denver? Love the Palm restaurant for special occasions. We’ve been going there for 30 years and always have the best food and perfect service.

Five Questions, One Broker: Kara Wetherill

Kara Wetherill, Broker Associate at Slifer — Denver

What’s the most exciting part about being a broker at SSF Denver? SSF and our sister company East West Partners have so many exciting projects happening at any given point in time. I’m most excited about our new condo development, The Coloradan. East West Partners has been instrumental in changing the downtown Denver landscape and I think this is our most exciting project yet!

Name one thing we might not know about you. I climbed Mt. Ranier when I was in high school. If you ever have the opportunity to do it I highly recommend it. The best part is that you get to fling yourself face first down the mountain to practice self-arresting.

What is something in downtown Denver that most people don’t know about? There’s a new restaurant named Tupelo Honey that just opened by Union Station. As a Southerner, I’m always on the hunt for authentic Southern cuisine so I’m chompin’ at the bit (as they say in the South) to see if it makes the grade.

Name one thing on your 2017 bucket list. International travel, specifically a trip to Cuba! I love exploring new countries and with a toddler, travel has been on the backburner the past few years. I’m ready to get back out and start exploring. I’m particularly drawn to how Cuba has seemingly been frozen in time.

Tell us about an upcoming adventure. Last month, I surprised my best friend by joining her on a trip to London for her 40th birthday. I told her I couldn’t take the time off of work but really met her at the airport in San Francisco pre-flight as a surprise. I even reserved the seat next to her on the plane. It was such a fun surprise!

MY FAVORITE BLOCK: Kelly Perkins

Kelly Perkins,  Founder and Owner,  Spinster Sisters Co.

My Favorite Block: Washington Street between 9th and 13th (Golden)

You may recognize Spinster Sisters Co. from the Denver Flea, West Elm, or any number of retailers throughout the city. With roots in Golden, the all-natural skin care company celebrated their fifth anniversary last month, just before the grand opening of Backyard on Blake, home to their RiNo storefront. We caught up with Founder and Owner Kelly Perkins to talk about where she likes to relax between all the excitement:

“My favorite block is actually in our own little burg - Golden. It is the strip of Washington St. from 9th through 13th. I love the old buildings, the history, the beautiful parks, the microbreweries, and the great restaurants. In the summer it’s crowded with visitors from within Colorado, as well as out-of-state tourists enjoying the myriad of festivals hosted in Golden, tubing on Clear Creek, listening to music, and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The hiking/biking trails around Golden make it a great day trip from anywhere in the Denver metro area.”

Mountain Toad Brewery and/or Golden City Brewery (why not both?) – All the beers. All of the beers. Yum. And they both have great beer gardens with a constantly rotating schedule of food trucks and music. How can you lose?

Baby Doe’s Clothing and Accessories – They have a great selection of women’s clothing that is constantly changing. They also have a lot of jewelry and accessories, many that are made by Colorado artists.

Abejas – The dinner is out of this world, the cocktails are amazing, but the weekend brunch is what dreams are made of. Maybe the best brunch ever. Literally. It’s making my mouth water just thinking about it.

Woody’s Pizza – Super good pizza, great beer selection (are you detecting a common theme here?), and a fantastic patio to enjoy the outdoors in the summer.
