Where to Celebrate Opening Day

Opening Day is one of our favorite days here in Denver. The streets fill with purple as Rockies fans of all ages show up to celebrate the first home game of the season. Whether you're headed to the stadium or watching from afar, here are a few of our favorite spots to grab food and drinks for the big game:

  • Coors Field. Expect a whole new array of food choices at Coors Field -- from taco trios and extreme pulled pork hot dogs to green chile mac and fried berry fritters.
  • Dairy Block. Denver's newest micro-district is opening Maker's Alley just in time for Opening Day, with free hot dogs and bottled water from 12-2pm. Plus, Poka Lola Social Bar inside Dairy Block will have an Absolut Bloody Mary bar, 50-cent coney dogs, and other food and drink specials starting at 10am.
  • Blake Street Tavern. This classic sports bar is starting the party at 9am with live music by Geek Strong, a local rock band specializing in '80s, '90s, and alt rock.
  • AvantiAvanti's Opening Day tailgate kicks off at 10am, with an extended happy hour from 10am-6pm and hot dogs on the lower patio from American Grind.
  • Terminal Bar. Bring your game ticket to Terminal Bar after the game for cans of Post Brewing beer for only $4. And, this one's good for any game, not just Opening Day!
  • Highland Tap & Burger. Trying to avoid LoDo before the game? This is a great spot for pre-game (and post-game) celebrations.
  • ViewHouse. This Blake Street staple is celebrating all weekend long, with $3 Coors Lights on Friday, a hot dog eating contest Saturday at 4pm, and special Opening Weekend brunches on Saturday and Sunday. (They're giving away tickets, too!)
  • Avelina. From 12pm until the first pitch is thrown, Avelina is giving away free hot dogs and draft beer on their patio. Doesn't get much better than that!
  • Jackson's DenverAfter the game, swing by Jackson's from 9pm-midnight for their $25 all-you-can-drink deal.
  • Wynkoop Brewing CompanyGetting an early start? Wynkoop Brewing has a special Opening Day breakfast at 8am for $25, with a panel discussion at 8:30am featuring Rockies media and signed baseballs, game-worn spikes, and other fun memorabilia giveaways.
  • 10 Barrel Brewing. Wear your 10 Barrel shirt or hat to snag $3 Denver-brewed beers. Plus, there's raffles and giveaways during the game and live music starting at 4pm.

It's no secret that driving and parking downtown can be a challenge on Opening Day. If you're looking for an alternate way into the city, give B-Cycle a try. Download the Denver B-Cycle app, pick up a bike in your neighborhood, then drop it off at the 19th and Wynkoop station. B-Cycle staff will be there from 11am-2:30pm to check-in bicycles, making it quick and easy to drop off your bike and get to the stadium.
