What do you love most about being the managing broker  at SSF Denver? I work with the best team of people that I’ve ever seen assembled.  Everyone pulls for each other, covers for each other, helps each other and works together to solve the sometimes complex problems in today’s real estate market.  We have the advantage of selling the great projects that East West Partners develops as well as working with other great clients looking for homes all over the city.  It’s fun searching for new brokers that will fit into our awesome team and bring new insight and ideas while soaking up the expertise from our many years of experience.

What does a weekend look like for you? Usually one day in the office and the other day spent at Union Reservoir on a paddle board, or at the barn building a new horse shelter, hiking in the foothills, maybe on the golf course (or ski slope) though I usually sneak away mid-week for those. 

Who are you currently inspired by? I am inspired by my wife Ann.  She has battled through many challenges over the years and has always kept her head up and heart strong.  Ann rescued a horse, Leo, this year from a slaughter lot and he has blossomed into a gorgeous strong animal that has created an incredible bond with her.  They have the safety and strength of each other every day and work out solutions to problems as only a horse and a woman can.

Local Insider: What is something about Downtown Denver that most people don’t know about? A few things about downtown in the 80’s: I started working downtown in July 1980 after graduating from CU Boulder.  I first worked for an accounting firm in the Denver Club building at 17th and Glenarm.  There was a paddle tennis court on the roof.  Later I had an office in the Security Life Building which is now the 1600 Glenarm Place Apartments. From my office on the 26th floor I watched the Masonic Building at 16th and Welton nearly burn to the ground in 1984.  I was working early on a Sunday during tax season and about 100 firefighters were just putting the blaze out.  There were a series of viaducts, raised roads, that took traffic from downtown over the rail yards (where Riverfront Park now stands) and out to the highway.  The Wazee Supper Club at 15th and Wazee was practically under the viaduct.

Tell us about a recent trip or one you are going on soon? Ann and I have been too busy this summer to get away much so we scheduled a week in September at one of our favorite places, Mustang Island in Texas.  I’m answering your questions from a condo on the beach right now.  Mustang Island is just north and east of Padre Island and is the barrier island for Corpus Christi Bay.  It’s the first place we vacationed after college graduation in 1980.  We have spent the past 24 Thanksgivings here and don’t often get down here other than November.  The weather is perfect, the water is bathtub warm and the steady onshore breeze makes for great windsurfing and kite boarding on the Gulf or the Laguna Madre.  Corpus Christi Bay’s flat water is the ideal paddle boarding spot.  Fresh shrimp, grouper, snapper and mahi mahi pair well with ice cold Lone Star beer and make this our favorite relaxation spot.
